Welcome to
The personal site of Stuart Hunter
I have created this site as a place where I can make notes, comment, software and pretty much anything else I can think of available for public viewing and consumption while keeping everything at least nominally under my own control. I'm not interested in social media, with its corporate agendas, algorithmic manipulation and random, irrational censorship. It's a cesspit. This site is a more personal alternative which allows me to share my work without being forced to give away or share my rights over my own content as many so called platforms insist upon.
All the software on this site was developed in the last couple of years or
so, although my software and programming experience dates back multiple decades across many
languages and operating systems, and indeed plenty of bare metal embedded work on various
microcontrollers; however,it's unlikely (but not impossible) that any of that will appear here.
Actually, if you want obsolete, I recently uncovered an old cassette tape containing a simple
game I wrote for the ZX Spectrum... in 1982. Whether it's still readable is another question
which I'm not quite ready to answer; I might only get one attempt at it.
Software downloads are categorised into games and applications, and are accompanied by
written guides (I don't do video, and probably never will) to help you
get the most from each piece of software. Also, in addition to the applications and games, this site
features a few articles that I wrote either to vent some much needed spleen, or just for the
sheer hell of it.
Please bear in mind that this site is
more of a showcase, not a blog so please don't expect bloggy things, or
for that matter any coherent rhyme or reason to the content - it's mine, and a little bit
of chaos never harmed anybody...
As for the site itself, this website was originally intended as a "static" site, constructed almost entirely
using HTML and CSS providing a snappy user experience as well as a reduced attack surface for me
to worry about. Well, that was the idea anyway. It soon became
apparent that creating a responsive site with the features I wanted to include would require
some JavaScript and PHP. No problem, I just looked on it as a learning opportunity with two more
languages to add to my tally.
But in the main, it still is what I originally intended it to be - that is to say, absolutely
not like a WordPress site!
On the downside, I have been forced to incorporate some external code (in other words, not under my control - it belongs to Cloudflare) on the Contact page in order to implement bot control, another unfortunate fact of life that any site owner offering a contact form has to deal with sooner rather than later. Trust me, without that and some other largely non visible measures, I'm bombarded with crap, so it stays - even though it's annoying to you as a user and me as an implementer.
A final note. You will find no AI slop on this site, everything here was made by human hand and mind; not a glorified autocomplete system. LLMs have their occasional uses, but they're nowhere near as good as the hype makes them sound (actually, not even close), and barring a major technological breakthrough never will be.
If you're still here after all that, thanks for reading this far, and I hope that you enjoy the rest of this site.
Regards,
